Professional recognition

Professional recognition is the authorization by a competent authority (Ministry, Ordem, Professional Association, etc.), to exercise a particular profession or a regulated professional activity.

It is regulated by Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, amended by Directive 2013/55/EU.

Through this Directive a Member State recognizes, for access to a regulated profession and for its exercise, the professional qualifications obtained in one other or more Member States that allow the holder of these qualifications to pursue the same profession.
