Accession of Croatia to the EU

On the 1st July 2013 Croatia became the 28th Member-state of the European Union (EU).

Croatia applied for membership of the EU in 2013, having become an official candidate later in 2004. The negotiation for its accession ended in 2011, when the Treaty of Accession was signed. In 2012 Croatia held a referendum about joining the EU, with 66% of participants voting in favour of this issue.
