Introducing DRMCI - Unit for Recognition, Mobility and International Cooperation

I am pleased to introduce to you the Unit for Recognition, Mobility and International Cooperation, of the Directorate General for Higher Education, whose mission is to support, follow and ensure the coordination of the international policies, programmes, projects and opportunities in Higher Education, in the framework of competences of the Ministry for Education and Science.

The core activities developed by this Unit are linked to assisting the Ministry in policy analysis and decision-making, as well as the promotion of good practices and activities for the internationalization of the Portuguese Higher Education system.

We can easily identify two main levels of intervention: (i) the dimension that integrates policy analysis, programme management, and mobility promotion, at European, bilateral, multilateral and international levels, and (ii) the recognition of foreign qualifications in Higher Education. At these levels, this Unit hosts the Portuguese ENIC/NARIC Centre and the National Structure of the Erasmus Mundus Programme.

Our main function is to provide information to the citizen and look for solutions that guarantee their expectations as well as to ensure national, European and international representation, to identify and disseminate international opportunities, to collaborate and exchange information with the main stakeholders, to promote programmes and students’ participation in international mobility activities.

Finally, but most importantly, this Unit is made up of people whose ideas make it possible to put into practice all these activities: Manuela Paiva, Sarah Fernandes, Leonor Santa Clara, Hugo Sena, João Figueiredo, Fernando Freitas, Diana Nascimento, Tiago Ilhicas and myself.

I hope I’ve sharpened your curiosity to learn more about us. Visit us at: www.dges.gov.pt.
